When I say "vulnerability," I mean a soft heart. Scripture often says a "broken" heart or, in response to sin, a "contrite" heart. I mean a penetrable heart that knows its own need and that acknowledges that need before God and others. More tonight on vulnerability before God, but here are some Psalms about God's response to a vulnerable, broken, and contrite heart.
When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.
The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.
For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it;
you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
When we are broken and vulnerable before God, He is near. We are in relationship with Him, acknowledging our needs, and having them met by a God who loves us intimately, who draws near.
