The Ultimate Earlybird

"She rises while it is yet night
and provides food for her household
   and portions for her maidens."

Whew.  That Proverbs 31 woman wears me out.  And where, by the way, are my maidens?

Just kidding--sort of.  But in the spirit of Resolutions, I've set a few for myself as well.  One of them includes rising at 5:30 am.  (Those who know me can insert laughter here.)  The purposes are twofold:  (1) I can start a load of laundry when I get up, rotate it before I leave for work, and fold it when I get home, and (2) (most importantly) I can spend some time reading the Bible and praying before the kids come rollicking into the kitchen wondering what's for breakfast. They're not allowed to get out of bed until "a six is in the front" on their little clocks, but you'd better believe they don't waste a second thereafter lying in their beds!

In this way I will have some fuel for starting the day and serve my family by staying somewhat on top of the insane laundry that accumulates if our washer is still for five minutes.  The fuel is much needed.  I am accustomed to awaking to a crying child, groaning, and starting the day feeling overwhelmed and behind.  Quite simply, this isn't working.  For anybody.

I made this resolution at the beginning of the year, and not so surprisingly met with immediate resistance (in the form of early morning bed-wetting from my children who have absolutely never wet their beds before).  So, today was the first day I have been able to pull myself out of bed and accomplish this task.  I am hopeful that with fuel for the demands of the day and laundry under control this year will be all the better.
