Simple Gifts

I posted some of my New Years Resolutions for my girls back in January, and a month ago had the realization that they were, um, incomplete--and, truth be told, I didn't see them being accomplished very soon.  I entrusted them to the One for whom all things are possible, and I am pleased to report that God's goodness to me has come in the form of a pillow and a CD.  The Resolutions, it turns out, are not hopeless!

One of my Resolutions was to teach the girls how to make their beds.  I had not even attempted this as of June 1.  This past weekend, though, I was browsing the pillows at TJMaxx and stumbled upon a two-pack of cute, inexpensive pillows that would go perfectly in my girls' room.  So I bought them.

When I got home,  Hallie was intrigued by the idea of a pillow that was just for decoration (she tried to lay down on it, and with mental images of drool on silk, I rushed to tell her this was not a "sleeping" pillow).  So I showed her how to pull up the covers on her bed and make it up, with this new fancy pillow right in front.
The past two mornings, I have walked in her room to find this...
(I have then rejoiced, turned around, and proceeded to make my own bed so as to not be shown up by my four year old.)

Another resolution was to teach the girls the fruits of the Spirit from Galatians.  Another task that had not been attempted as of June 1.  And then my inlaws handed us a CD at the beach that Hallie had enjoyed in their car.  It's a CD of songs straight from Scripture, and guess what?  Yep, one of the songs is the fruits of the Spirit.  The girls are well on their way to having them memorized!  (I hope to talk with them about what each one means--we've already covered "self-control" quite a few times!)

The narrations on the CD can be a little hokey, but the songs are well done.  And it's always good to have "do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself" singsonging through my head.
