The Little Sister

This is a big week in the life of my oldest.  Multiple birthday celebrations, her first "friend" birthday party, and her first ballet recital.  She is over the moon excited (mainly because she gets to wear makeup at the recital).

Today on the way to school, though, my sweet middle child announced that it is "Recital Day!"

Her genuine excitement for her sister makes this momma all misty-eyed.  Although they are considerably close in age, Sara is still too young for ballet.  She isn't doing all the present-opening this week.  But she truly doesn't seem to mind most of the time.  She is content to smile with and for her sister and to sit in the audience at the recital tonight.  I couldn't be prouder of her.

We're taking care to love on her a lot and make sure she feels a part of all the celebration, but it seems we feel the need more than she does.  And once again, I am so thankful that God gave her to me.  What was once an overwhelming surprise (Sara was, oh, about two years earlier than my plans) is now an unmatched blessing, as I watch these two close-together babies learn to love each other well.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.

  1. And, as Sara reminded me this morning..."you can watch me" dance next year.
