Elusive Rest

"Come to me, all who labor and heavy laden and I will give you rest."

And how does Christ give us that rest?

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me."

So, when I am tired, when I am burdened, the answer is not to withdraw, but to learn.  To take up a yoke and walk.

When I am busy, when I am stretched to the limit--which happens quite a lot lately--I am promised rest in one place:  where I am learning from Christ.  How easy it is to stay in my warm bed, to tell myself that rest comes in more sleep.  (And surely sleep is a good gift from God.)  Or to tell myself that surely I've earned some "me time."

These things may be good and may even be temporarily rejuvenating.  But they are not where I will find, and indeed have been promised, "rest for my soul."
